2007 Fonseca (per 6x75cl) A stunning, perfumed nose of black/ red fruit, herbs and a touch of soft spice. It has a dense solid core over which the perfumed aromas sore. Real class with distinct terroir notes of wild herbs and exotic wood notes. Beguiling, sweet and seamless, medium to high acidity, medium soft tannins. Juicy, succulent and perfumed. Displaying a greater red fruit character at the moment with hints of damson/ plum conserve. Exceedingly fresh, the acidity cuts in on the finish where you would expect the tannins. Stunning length. 2007 Taylor’s (per 6x75cl) A chunky and distinctly masculine nose, as usual. Full of brambly hedgerow black fruit, minerals and a lovely perfumed note. It has verve and freshness and seems less austere than usual. Dark and brooding on the palate as ever. Not as sweet as Fonseca with a delicious depth of succulent black cherry, damson and herby nuances. Medium acidity, medium tannins. Amazing peppery middle, again a wonderful freshness with the supple tannins masking the finish. (CG)
