2004 St Joseph Blanc 'Deschants' Clean, aromatic, youthful aromas of crisp, spicy apricot, minerals, creamy nuts plus a slight grassiness and citrus note. Dry, low to medium acidity, quiet weighty, delicately spiced apricots. Lovely, intense, soft nutty/ buttery middle, slightly grassy with a very long mineral finish. Lovely balance of acidity and ripe fruit with a touch of peach on the after taste. (CG)

2007 Ermitage Blanc ‘L’Ermite’ (per 6x75cl) This wine is a selection of Chapoutier’s oldest Marsanne vines (some more than 100 years old). From a 0.5 ha plot on the top of Hermitage hill, behind the chapel.
The nose displays and awesome freshness, which takes awhile to open up, but when it does it is unbelievably good. Very ripe aromas of elegant fruit, honeysuckle and minerals are intertwined with a delicately nutty note. Crisp and full of character.
Dry on the palate, low acidity, yet it has an amazing freshness. Stunningly complex with lime, quince, apricot, honeysuckle, minerals/ granite. Possibly the most austere of the whites, shot through with a veritable bucket load of minerals and granity notes. Amazing structure, concentration and length. (CG)

2007 Ermitge Rouge ‘Le Pavillon’ (per 6x75cl) The Wine comes from the 4 hectare ‘lieu-dit’ Les Bessards, a fine layer of sediment lying on granite slopes.
With tiny yields of 20 hl/ha it imbues the nose with dense almost port-like aromas of blackcurrant/ cherry and liquorice. Very intense and with an amazing fruit sweetness it reminds me of a young Fonseca.
Dry and rich on the palate, low acidity, low to medium tannins. Possibly the star of the show! Glorious globs of glycerol intermingle with sexy, sweet, pure blackcurrant/ cherry, licourice, sweet spices, and with a slight note of capsicum. Huge and mouth filling. Amazing length and structure.

2007 Chateauneuf-du-Pape ‘Croix de Bois’ (per 6x75cl) The vines are situated in the town of Bedarrides, and the terroir is characterized by large rolled quartz peoples. This terroir is distinctly different to the Barbe Rac and produces a wine which is more aromatic in style.
Very fresh and exuberant it exudes aromas of plums, redcurrant, herbs and a slight spice and smoke. The palate is rich and juicy, low acidity, low to medium tannins and possesses a wonderful fruit sweetness and purity. Like the nose it has an abundance of plum, redcurrant and cherry flavours. Mouth filling, generously endowed and creamy with spice notes evident on the finish.
