The young Jean Boxler who produces the wines today has inherited his father's talents and perfectionism. The domaine produces a range of generic, (no lieux dits) and Grand Cru Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gew?rztraminer and Muscat from the Brand and Sommemberg. One remarkable aspect to Jean's winemaking methods is that instead of bottling, say, one Sommerberg, he prefers to separate out the terroirs within a Grand Cru.
One of the key qualities which lift these wines above their peers is their impeccable balance and harmony. They are the 'essence' of each variety. Despite my numerous visits to the domaine and Jean's polite answers to my never-ending questions, I am still at a loss to explain how such consistently sumptuous wines are produced. Jean keeps the 'family recipe' a close guarded secret!

1997 Gewurztraminer Vendage Tardive (per 6x75cl) A suprisingly light bouquet of lychees & retrained sweetness. Elegant, lush palate of mouth filling, complex lychee fruit flavours. (VR)

2000 Gewurztraminer Brand More terroir than Gewurz on the nose. The palate offers flavours of ripe orange and tangerine fruits with delicate oriental spices. A very elegant wine with a good balance of acidity. (VR)

2001 Pinot Gris Brand Vendage Tardive Full yellow color. Reticent nose shows a more honeyed, marmaladey character. Thick and superconcentrated, with the noble rot character bringing a concentration of the wine's sugar and acidity. A step up in intensity and inner-mouth energy from the "regular" Brand, with very sweet marmalade and honey flavors and great verve. (ST)
2004 Pinot Gris Brand Ripe, pure, complex bouquet – broader. The palate follows from the nose – less mineral than the Sommerberg with ripe, luscious fruit and real concentration. Balanced by a fabulous lift of acidity. Great length but much less direct – much broader on the finish. (VR)

2004 Riesling Sommerberg JV Clean, pure, ripe fruit. Wonderful intensity on the palate with good mineral complexity coming through. Fine, elegant acidity. Long and delineated. (VR)
