2005 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Gallimardes' Gallimardes is a wonderful wine, so complex but appealing at the same time. There is an elegance here, a touch of class to balance the immense concentration of fruits. Slightly backward, but loaded with layer upon layer of sweet black forest fruits, coffee and garrigues. An evolution of 12-20 years seems entirely possible. (JG)

2005 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Grenache de Pierre' This awesome micro-cuvee (150 cases where produced) has a touch of magic about it, an almost ethereal quality. Made entirely from old vine Grenache grown on the sandy sector in La Crau, one would be forgiven to thinking that it is a monster. Far from it, elegance once again prevails, but it has an astonishing complexity and length. 15+ years. (JG)

2005 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Tradition' The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape displays plenty of garrigue, ground pepper, black cherry jam, spice, and earth characteristics. It is a fresh, medium to full-bodied effort revealing slightly higher acidity than its 2006 counterpart, but also a more compact, structured style, even though it is accessible. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. (RP)

2006 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Grenache de Pierre' A candidate for wine of the vintage is the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Grenaches de Pierre. The essence of kirsch liqueur in that Rayas/Chateau Lafleur style, this wine has great intensity, full-bodied power, a seamless, silky integration of acidity and tannin, and a massive but light to the touch mouthfeel, this stunningly brilliant wine tastes like the Musigny of Chateauneuf du Pape. Drink it over the next 12-15+ years. (RP)

2006 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Les Gallimardes' Made from 100 year old vines this special cuvee originates from the families vines on the lieu-dit of Gallimardes to the south of the village. Rich and brimming with ripe blackcherry fruits, licorice and spice. Beautiful rounded tannins, gorgeous texture and a long sweet ripe fruit finish. This wine should age beautifully for a decade or more. (JG)
